This 600 year old temple is dedicated to Karni Mata, a famous mystic of her times, believed to be an incarnation of goddess Durga. Legend has it, that she foretold the victory of Rao Bika. Here, rats are considered holy, owing to the belief, that the souls of the devotees of the Mata, are resident in these rats and, consequently, they must be looked after. The huge silver gates to the temple, and the marble carvings were donated by Maharaja Ganga Singh.

People from far and wide come to pay religious tribute to shri karni mata. Throughout the year there's an influx of pilgrims. Outside rajasthan, places like Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana are areas where mata is greatly respected and loved. During the time of navratri thousands flock to mata's temple on foot. Mata's enigma attracts pilgrims from all over. It is becoming one of the holiest and most faithful places in India.

The Rats at the Karni Mata Temple :-
A normal human being will be absolutely scared over the thought, of the number of rats (They look like rats, but actually aren’t) that are in the temple. However, the outstanding fact is that, these Kabas are harmless and play around in the temple without disturbing the devotees. Rather they sit on devotees’ laps, shoulders, hands and head which the devotees think to be of divine spirit and blessings of the Goddess.

How to reach :-

Deshnok is only 30 KM from Bikaner (by road). Bikaner is well connected through National Highway with Delhi, Agra, Jodhpur, Jaipur and other cities of India.

Bikaner By Rail:
Rail service is also there, you can reach Bikaner by meter gauge or by broad gauge train. Bikaner is connected with Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bhatinda, Kalka and Kolkata.

Bikaner By Air:
The nearest airport is Jodhpur, 253 Km and the other airports are Jaipur, Agra and Delhi.

Bikaner By Road:
Bikaner is about 450 Km by road from Delhi, 350 Km from Jaipur and 350 Km from Jodhpur. The condition of the roads is good.
